Delegates from George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science recently traveled across the Atlantic to represent Philadelphia at ToMUN (Toruń Model United Nations), an international student diplomacy conference organized by I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Toruń, Poland. Staying with local host families, Carver students had the unique opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Polish history and culture, experience daily life alongside their Polish peers, and forge lasting international friendships.
A highlight of the trip occurred on September 29, 2026, when Carver delegates and faculty were officially welcomed to Toruń City Hall by Łukasz Walkusz, Chairman of the Toruń City Council. Hosted inside the historic Nicholas Copernicus Council Chamber, the official reception held special significance as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the sister city partnership between Philadelphia and Toruń, originally established in 1976. During the visit, civic leaders presented Carver students with an overview of local Polish governance, shared the city’s rich heritage, and showcased official municipal insignia.
Through diplomatic debates at ToMUN and memorable cultural exchanges across the city, Carver High School students proudly served as global ambassadors for Philadelphia, exemplifying leadership and international cooperation.
