Students in computer science, engineering, and robotics classes recently had the exciting opportunity to hear from two outstanding groups of professionals who are making a real impact in their fields — and who came ready to inspire the next generation of innovators.
Glenn Dickerson of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) visited to share his journey and the powerful mission behind one of the nation’s most influential engineering organizations. His presentation gave students a firsthand look at the importance of diversity and representation in STEM fields, and the doors that open when young people pursue careers in engineering and technology. His message was clear: the skills students are building right now are exactly what the world needs.
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also took the time to connect with students, offering a fascinating look at the wide-ranging, real-world work the Corps takes on — from infrastructure and construction to environmental projects that impact communities across the country. Students learned that engineering isn’t just a career — it’s a calling that can shape the world around us.
Together, the two presentations painted an inspiring picture of what’s possible for students who pursue their passion for technology, problem-solving, and innovation. Our computer science, engineering, and robotics students left with new perspectives, new connections, and a renewed sense of purpose.
A huge thank you to Glenn Dickerson and the representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for investing their time in our students. We can’t wait to see what our young engineers build next!
