On April 3rd, students from Carver High School of Engineering and Science gained first hand exposure to the world of finance during a visit to Blackrock’s offices. The field trip was organized as part of the Rock the Street, Wall Street program, an initiative dedicated to empowering high school girls with financial and investment literacy.
Throughout the morning, the students participated in a packed agenda designed to provide insights into various aspects of the financial industry and career planning. The day kicked off with a welcome session and introductions to Blackrock, followed by an engaging Investing Workshop and market simulation led by industry professionals Melanie Dennis and Lisa Shah.
The visit also included practical life skills sessions covering topics crucial for future success. Students learned about establishing credit, navigating the college application process, including financial aid options, and heard about the college experience. Later sessions focused on essential “Work Etiquette 101,” offering guidance on professional communication, including email drafting and non-verbal cues, as well as appropriate work attire. Interspersed breaks allowed students to tour the Blackrock office and witness a trading demonstration, providing a real-world glimpse into the fast-paced environment. The day concluded with lunch and closing remarks, wrapping up an informative experience aimed at inspiring the next generation of female leaders in finance.
